My first day at NABC, I acquired a pen. This pen wasn’t just any pen, it was my favorite type of pen; the Uniball Vision fine-tipped pen. You know, the kind that dispenses fresh ink and has viewing holes on the pen’s shaft (?!) so you never feel cheated or surprised when your ink runs out? And to top it off, the ink was purple. That’s rare and fun at the same time.
Now I’ve been working at this office for a little less than 3 months. It was a temp position from the start, and now that short-lived period is over. I will be moving onto another position somehere else, details to follow shortly.
Here’s my point. Yesterday, as I was scribbling product package sell points and bullets feverishly (as I do every day), I noticed my pen started fading in and out, leaving white spots where purple once glowed. It was almost like my pen were giving up, as if it knew it’s purpose was almost complete. Breathing it’s last sigh, my favorite purple pen threw in the towel.
All those great notes, all the countless CES forms I filled out, all those lengthy part numbers. Farewell purple pen, you served your duties to the fullest extent, and I couldn’t have asked for more from a writing utensil.
Although this might seem weird to others, I beleive in fate, and I feel like this is a sign that I am moving on. It made me feel like my time here at the battery company was done, and that I too had done a fantastic job and completed my duties diligently. And now, as the week is coming to a close, I am getting ready to sigh my last breath. With closed doors come open windows, and I can’t wait to see where my next office pen takes me.
